Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT)

Hope for Relief Organisation is implementing a 2-year project on HIV/AIDS Prevention in Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District. The goal of the project is to reduce mother to child transmission of HIV in Traditional Authority Kameme, Chitipa District in the northern region of Malawi by 60% through provision of inclusive and cohesive community based PMTCT driven approaches.

The project  is geared towards raising awareness on PMTCT through Mother Buddies (MBs) and Self Help Groups (SHGs) who will reach out to HIV+ pregnant women regarding Antenatal care  (ANC)  services and AIDS treatment adherence. These groups serve as platforms to share AIDS and PMTCT information. Men are encouraged to escort their pregnant wives to ANC services through community by-laws.
